A year long research project on Little Haven’s unique Model of Community Based Palliative Care, done by the UniSC team has resulted in the publishing of a paper in leading and respected peer reviewed international medical / palliative care journal.

Let me tell you a story that illustrates how a holistic view of a patient’s mind, body, and soul can positively impact their end-of-life story. We had a patient with advanced end-stage renal failure.

Sunday the 22nd of October saw the inaugural ‘Doing it for Toots’ Little Haven Palliative Care Charity Day at Gunabul Homestead. It was a beautiful day, with over 100 players and raising over $17,000. Thank you, Rob, Debbie, Bill, all of your helpers, the Gunabul Homestead team and the 40 plus very generous business sponsors.

On Saturday evening the 3rd of June, Little Haven’s CEO Sue Manton attended the 43rd Changeover Dinner of the Lions Club of Gympie South. The event was held at the Gympie South Bowls Club, with lovely dinner prepared and served by the dedicated ladies from the Bowls Club.

International Nurses Day is celebrated around the world every May 12, the anniversary of Florence Nightingale’s birth. And today we join in celebrating our amazing Nurses and give thanks for all the valuable work they do for the terminally ill in our community.

Some of you will know Graeme Chisholm as a talented organist, some as a much loved Head Master but to Little Haven he was a Godsend – our biography volunteer. A man with a willing ear and an open heart who over the past 8 years sat with about 50 of our patients, listened to their life stories, put their memories into words and bound them up in a book as a precious keepsake for families.

Attending the funerals and memorial services of patients we’ve cared for is a special and important part of our work. Giving us an opportunity to pay our respects, to acknowledge our own feelings of grief and loss for the person we have come to know and providing valuable insights as we continue our bereavement support for their loved ones.
