February 2022 Gympie Flood at 23 Metres was the biggest flood in Gympie since 1883. The Little Haven Market Place was submerged to the ceiling height of the street-level shop. Below is the timeline and pictures of the flood, the clean-up, and the grand reopening.
The Flood is coming.
Friday 25th February 2022
Thank you to all the helpers at the Market Place today, Little Haven volunteers, and members of the community who responded to our call for help. Working in the pouring rain without complaint. The water came up so fast that it caught us off guard this morning.
Big shout out to Jenny & Geoff Stolberg & The Sauer family for their help today and use of their sheds ?. Thanks to Cooloola Removals for the use of your truck and Domino’s Pizzas for the donation of 20 pizzas for the workers. Thanks, Brad the manager for offering this. Everyone pitched in to do what we could in a difficult situation. I’m not looking forward to the clean-up. Stay safe everyone and thank you.

The Clean up
Wednesday 2nd March 2022
These past 5 days have been so hard for our Market Place volunteers. They take such care of all the goods donated, it’s been devastating to see their hard work consumed by mud. From the minute the water receded they were back cleaning up the mess. Absolute troopers!
There will be a lot of weary bones around town tonight and many grateful hearts for all the kind caring people who’ve been dropping in with food, ice blocks, coffee, and goodwill. To all the helpers, THANK YOU!
The Grand Reopening
Wednesday 27th April 2022
Huge day for our Market Place volunteers today with the grand reopening!!! They worked so hard to get it back bigger and better than ever after the floods destroyed everything. Many people dropped in for a browse and enjoyed the all-day free sausage sizzle. A big thank you to the Market Place volunteers for all their tireless work over the 8 weeks it took to get the Market Place reopened again.
