Little Haven Cooloola and Sunshine Coast Palliative Care business manager Sue Manton has been named one of three finalists for the Regional Service Award in this years Regional Achievement and Community Awards which has a prize of $2500.
The nomination notes that through Sue’s efforts the centre continues to provide a vital community service by improving end of life options for the ill and their families.
Faced with a funding shortfall of more than $200,000 each and every year, Ms Manton and the team of Little Haven workers somehow manage to find the operating funds needed to provide around-the-clock in-home nursing, free of charge to anyone in need.
It was for this reason Ms Manton agreed to accept the nomination.
“In accepting the award nomination and I thank our volunteer services co-ordinator Sue Bagust for thinking of me, I did so for the value of shining the spotlight on the work Little Haven does,” Ms Manton said.
“And if I was to be the finalist, the $2500 prize would be a bonus to our fundraising here.”
In the nomination, Ms Bagust told the selection committee it was one of Little Haven’s policies under Sue Manton’s leadership to ensure no one was isolated in their “hour of need”.
“Under Sue’s leadership, Little Haven is now an integral part of the Gympie/Cooloola health network, providing nursing care, support services, counselling, bereavement support, education and advice and a range of equipment which enables the patient to stay at home,” Ms Bagust said.
Award sponsor Clark Rubber congratulated Ms Manton for her dedication and commitment to her community in providing guidance and support to others in need. The winner will be announced at a presentation dinner in Rockhampton on November 13.
