How many sleeps to Christmas?

If you are starting to worry about how many presents you need to find before Christmas, or even how bare your tree looks this year, don’t panic. You’ll be able to find a cornucopia of original present ideas as well as a galaxy of decorations at the Kathy Hood Singers,  Bring and Buy Sale, held immediately after you’ve enjoyed the Joy to the World Christmas Cantata which starts at 2 pm on Sunday 5th December.

All items are donated and feature the best of our local arts and crafts, so you are guaranteed to find that original present or Christmas decoration. You can even enjoy a cup of tea or coffee as you browse. Best of all, all proceeds go to our local Little Haven Palliative Care, to help them continue to help those in our community living with a life-threatening illness.

Before the Bring and Buy Sale, you’ll enjoy the Joy to the World Christmas Cantata presented by The Kathy Hood Singers, 40 voices from the Singing Studio augmented by adult voices to present all four harmonies. Joy to the World tells the Christmas story in music, with a narrator linking the vocals into the Christmas story. As well as traditional carols, the original Cantata now includes duets and trios including The First Noel accompanied by organ and two recorders and Angel Carol (or Hark the Herald Angels Sing) accompanied by organ and flute.  Other duets include Arruru which is a Mexican folk carol, and Born Today in Bethlehem.

If you are ready to experience the wonders of the Christmas story in music and appreciate the closeness of community, don’t miss the 2pm performance of Joy to the World Christmas Cantata. Appreciate the singing, discover that elusive gift or decoration, enjoy a cup of tea or coffee and know that you are helping to make a difference in your community. Now that is an afternoon well spent – and if you can’t make the 2 pm performance, Joy to the World will be repeated at 7pm, without the Bring and Buy Sale.

Little Haven is a local not-for-profit organisation that operates on minimal Government funding, and covers over 3,000 sq km in the Cooloola/Sunshine Coast region. Every year, we need to raise over 2/3 of our operating costs just to keep operating, and every year through the support of our dedicated volunteers and people in our local community like Kathy Hood, we raise the funds needed to continue to offer a 24 hour/7day in-home palliative care support service, with professional nurses on call, free to anyone in our community who needs this support. Thanks to the generosity of local clubs and businesses, we can also supply completely free-of-charge any medical furniture needed to turn your home into a haven, from electrical adjustable beds through to the most basic bathroom and toiletry requirements. Little Haven’s mission is to continue to provide all this free of charge to our clients, because we believe that when you are coping with a life threatening illness in your family the last thing you need is to be worried about finding extra money to pay for essential services, or to wait in a queue to borrow essential medical equipment.
