SEVEN A SIDE CRICKET CARNIVAL-Sunday 16 September 2012

Location: Gympie Cricket Fields, One Mile Oval
Starts   8:00am
Description: Gympie Cricket Association will host Seven A Side Cricket Carnival with BBQ, Bar and raffles.

Raising funds for Little Haven Palliative Care

GYMPIE Cricket Association is calling for cricket teams, no matter the skill level, to take to the crease for a good cause this Sunday.

The association will begin its season with the annual seven-a-side social competition, to raise funds for Little Haven Palliative Care, Gympie Cricket Association and Gympie Junior Cricket.

Association president Troy Rowlands said the Sunshine Mitre 10-supported day drew cricket teams in the dozens to One Mile Oval for some runs on the pitch and a laugh on the field.

He said the social event did not call for the best of cricketing skill, just a team of seven players to join in the fun.

“It’s a day for people that don’t usually play cricket,” Rowlands said.

“People get work teams together for the day.”

Raffles on the day will feature impressive prizes from Goodyear Jewellers and Sunshine Mitre 10 as well as a cricket bat signed by Australian Test cricketer Marcus North courtesy of Sports Power Gympie.

The seven-a-side event will offer a full canteen and barbecue.

Rowlands reminded teams their nominations were due by the end of this week and could be dropped into Woodrow’s Handcraft on Mary St, Sports Power Gympie or Sunshine Mitre 10.

Entry fees are $70 per team, which must be paid on nomination, and teams will be divided into four divisions for the event.

Rowlands said the event was a fun way for the Association to open its local summer season, which will begin officially on September 22.
