Thank you Annie Gaffney and ABC Sunshine Coast Radio for the opportunity in National Palliative Care Week to speak about Little Haven’s model of care and the frustrations this demonstrated model of care does not receive equitably funded. Nor does QHealth have any appetite to adopt our model in other areas of Qld that do not have access to any specialist palliative community based care options.
It’s time for our Politicians, Health administrators and Peak representative bodies to stop paying lip service to end of life care and campaigns like “You Matter, Your Health Matters” and start throwing their weight behind the organisations who day in day out live up to the dictum “You matter because you are you, and you matter to the end of your life. We will do all we can not only to help you die peacefully, but also to live until you die.” Dame Cecily Saunders
