Honour before Self

They say it’s never too early to teach empathy and Flynn Hutchison is a wonderful example of just what empathy looks like. Simply put, empathy is the ability to think and care about the feelings and needs of others. The good news is children are empathetic by nature, they just need parents like Bruce and Wendy to nurture that empathy.

And so it was that Flynn arrived at Little Haven Palliative Care this afternoon to shyly hand over the $100 he had raised through the container exchange scheme, collecting bottles and cans for recycling on Little Haven’s behalf. His Mum Wendy had discussed the work Little Haven does and Flynn was happy to give half of the money he’d raised to this local charity.

Like the motto on his One Mile School uniform “Honour before Self,” Flynn demonstrated by helping others we build stronger selves and stronger communities.
